Gray filters or neutral density (ND) filters are used when too much light limits creative possibilities. They reduce the light according to their density. In this way, they enable slower shutter speeds or wider open apertures. The applications are varied and sometimes experimental. For very bright subjects in the snow or on the beach, the aperture would also have to be closed despite the fastest shutter speed. This would mean losing the option of a shallow depth of field, for portraits, for example. Gray filters help to create wiping effects with movements if the exposure time can be increased at the desired aperture. For example, a waterfall no longer appears "frozen" but as a flowing movement. Gray filters achieve sophisticated effects in architectural or urban photography. With long exposure times of several seconds, people walking through the image are blurred or not reproduced at all. Very dense filters produce a warm tone for physical reasons, which can be compensated for in image processing.

Note: To avoid vignetting, this filter has a front lens superstructure, i.e. the diameter of the front lens is larger than that of the rear lens. Please note that a 58mm lens cap is therefore required.
