New: Tamron 70-180mm 2.8 Di III VXD for Sony FE-Mount

The compact telephoto zoom

With the new 70-180mm 2.8 DI III VXD, Tamron has launched a powerful high-speed telephoto zoom lens for Sony full-frame cameras, which is sure to please many Sony users.
Weighing in at 815 grams and measuring 14.9 cm, the 70-180mm f/2.8 is the smallest and lightest in its class.
Weight plays a decisive role, especially in the field of travel photography.

Image quality and light intensity:

With a continuous aperture of 2.8, it is also particularly fast in the zoom range and also impresses here with its outstanding image sharpness.

This is achieved by a special lens design, which also enables a minimum distance of 0.85m to be achieved. A floating mechanism guarantees high optical performance regardless of the selected focusing distance: two electronically controlled VXD modules moving in parallel ensure brilliant and sharp image results for both close and distant objects.

A fast Tamron trio!

Another plus point is the filter thread. This is identical to other Tamron lenses in the 17-28mm and 28-75mm E-mount series. As with the ultra wide-angle zoom lens 17-28mm and the standard zoom lens 28-75mm, the new Tamron 70-180mm f/2.8 fully supports functions of the Sony full-frame cameras such as Eye AF and Fast Hybrid AF. A real fast dream team!

Together, all three weigh astonishingly little, just 1,780g.
Shooting with fast F/2.8 zoom lenses has never been easier and more comfortable.

Compared to the 70-200mm f/2.8 from Sony , the Tamron 70-180mm f/2.8 scores above all with its compact and lightweight construction.

Autofocus and shooting areas:

When it comes to autofocus, the new telephoto zoom lens scores with speed and precision.

The extremely fast AF motor enables the most precise focusing of 0.005mm on the subject. The focus reacts so quickly that it is perfect for sports photography.

With a focal length of 70-180mm, it covers numerous shooting situations, supported above all by the continuous open aperture of f/2.8. This makes it flexible and also equipped for difficult lighting situations.

Construction:

The Tamron 70-180mm f/2.8 is moisture-resistant thanks to the fluorine coating of the front lens and, compared to the Sony telephoto lens 70-200mm 2.8, is extremely light and compact with a weight of 815 grams and a size of 14.9cm, which is particularly appealing for travel photography. The special optical lenses are arranged in such a way that chromatic aberrations are corrected and high resolution values are also achieved in the peripheral areas. The lens surfaces are also provided with BBAR-G2 coating, which reduces ghost images and reflections to a minimum. Even backlit shots are characterized by high brilliance and a great wealth of detail. This allows you to create portraits with incredible brilliance and a great blur in the background.

Here is a brief overview:

  • Telephoto zoom lens
  • compact and lightweight design
  • extremely quiet and fast newly developed VXD linear motor
  • outstanding optical performance
  • moisture-resistant construction
  • Filter diameter 67 mm

The 70-180mm F/2.8 is compatible with many advanced features of mirrorless system cameras. These include:

  • Fast Hybrid Autofocus
  • Eye Detection AF
  • Direct Manual Focus (DMF)
  • integrated lens correction (vignetting, color spaces, distortion)
